Mulitmedia Project
I asked my team which topic they have to most difficulty finding and coming up ideas for, and they all decided that Folktales, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, John Henry and Annie Oakley. Folktales are at then end of the year, and we always struggle with finding something new for folktales. My idea for the Multimedia Project was to create a type of scavenger hunt with the folktales. It will take a couple days for the students to complete the scavenger hunt. I plan to use video and audio clues, as well as links to websites. Since this is going to be used for First Graders, I will design it with them in mind, to make the WebQuest more appealing to them. We have laptop carts that we can check out, and a great computer lab that we can use to access computers as a class. I'm designing this to be done in a whole group setting, since it is geared toward first graders, it's easier to manage the class when we're all doing the same thing in the computer lab or lap tops! Right now, it seems like a lot of work, but I know that once I start adding the pages it will start moving along... I hope!!

Rachel, sounds great and I hope you will share as I would love to use it with my 1st graders too! I will let you know how mine goes which covers health standards.
ReplyDeleteI like this idea, folktales can be lots of fun. You might want to check out Tumble books and other e-books for folktales to incorporate into your Web Quest.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a math Web Quest also for 1st grade. It is on counting coins to and from a dollar.
Good luck and
I look forward to seeing your product.
I like the idea of using folklore and modern technology together. I would love to hear in more detail what you'll have the students do. Are they trying to match up important figures in folklore with the correct story? If you need some links, check out this page: http://americanfolklore.net/folklore/2010/07/folklore_web_resources_for_tea.html
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
I love your topic choice. Folktales are one of my favorite things to teach. I like the Scavenger Hunt angle that you are taking as well. Scavenger hunts always seem fun! I can imagine that it would be easier to complete a WebQuest as a whole group activity with first graders. Is there a way that students who need extension could work on their own to present more of a challenge for them?
